The Howard Roberts Fusion is a distinctive semi-hollow electric guitar introduced by Gibson and designed in collaboration with jazz guitarist Howard Roberts.
It features a semi-hollow body construction that blends elements of a full archtop jazz guitar with the sustain and feedback resistance of a solid-body instrument. Typically equipped with humbucking pickups, a comfortable neck profile, and a slightly smaller body size than traditional jazz boxes, it was built to handle a wide range of styles—from smooth jazz to fusion, rock, and studio work.
Known for its warm, articulate tone and versatility, the Howard Roberts Fusion became popular among session players who needed a guitar capable of covering multiple genres. Later versions (Fusion II and III) refined the design, but all remain appreciated today as unique, high-quality vintage Gibson instruments with a strong jazz heritage and modern flexibility.
