This 1952 Gretsch 6040 Syncromatic, previously owned by Brian Setzer, is a highly collectible vintage hollow-body archtop acoustic guitar with real historical and player provenance.
It’s part of Gretsch’s mid-century Synchromatic 400 series, an 18″ wide, non-cutaway maple archtop designed in the 1940s and refined into the early 1950s. It’s prized for its rich acoustic tone and striking period aesthetic, with double-bound F-holes and distinctive stepped bridge and harp tailpiece typical of the Synchromatic line.
This particular 6040 is noted in a vintage gear listing as having been owned by legendary guitarist Brian Setzer, best known for his work with the Stray Cats and The Brian Setzer Orchestra — a musician widely associated with vintage Gretsch instruments.
