The Korean-made Danelectro Longhorn bass reissue (typically late ’90s–early 2000s) is a lightweight, short-scale instrument that faithfully recreates the quirky look and vintage tone of the original 1950s design. It features the signature exaggerated double-cutaway “longhorn” body, built with a semi-hollow wood frame and Masonite top and back, giving it a distinctive airy resonance and punchy low end.
Most examples have a 30-inch scale, a slim bolt-on maple neck, and dual “lipstick” single-coil pickups controlled by stacked volume and tone knobs, producing a bright, twangy, and slightly lo-fi sound that stands out in a mix.
The Korean reissues are especially known for being affordable yet well-made, with a retro aesthetic, very light weight, and a smooth, easy-playing feel—though they can show some cost-cutting quirks like simple hardware and cosmetic wear over time.
