The H.S. Anderson Madcat is one of the most recognizable Japanese guitars ever produced, originally built by Moridaira in the 1970s and later distributed under several brands, including Hohner. Although often called a "Telecaster copy," it is actually a unique design featuring a walnut center strip with sen ash body wings, maple top and back veneers, Strat-style pickups, a hardtail Strat-style bridge, and the iconic leopard-print pickguard.

The guitar became legendary after Prince adopted it as his primary instrument beginning around 1980, using it extensively throughout his career. Its association with Prince has made original H.S. Anderson, Hohner HG-490, and Bill Lawrence Madcat models highly collectible, with modern Japanese reissues still produced in small numbers by the original Moridaira craftsmen.
